Il convegno Paradigmi del fotografico. Teorie e poetiche in dialogo con
le arti visive si propone di svolgere una ricognizione ad ampio raggio
sulla ricerca fotografica nello sviluppo complessivo delle arti. Tale
intenzione, sollecitata dai cambiamenti e dalle novità che hanno
caratterizzato la cultura artistica e fotografica tra fine secolo e
nuovo Millennio, scaturisce dall’evidente messa in discussione di
tutti i paradigmi della riflessione storica sul mezzo. Da un lato
l’evoluzione tecnologica e i cambiamenti sociali, dall’altro
quella delle arti visive e della fotografia stessa, hanno sottoposto
l’identità del mezzo a un continuo gioco di rimandi e fughe, di
attrazioni e scontri.
Storicamente segnato dal confronto con la pittura, il rapporto tra
fotografia e arti visive si è arricchito nel corso del Novecento
delle relazioni e delle complicità con quelle ricerche che,
infrangendo il monopolio del quadro, hanno spalancato le frontiere del
concetto, del corpo e dell’ambiente, a partire dall’eroica
stagione delle Avanguardie Storiche per giungere fino ai nostri
giorni. A questo fondamentale rapporto si sono aggiunte le
contaminazioni con il cinema, la moda e l’industria culturale e
creativa, nonché gli intrecci con le problematiche espositive e
museali e la particolare presenza nell’editoria, fino al passaggio
al digitale e all’universo dei social media. Tutti questi fenomeni
hanno proposto una altrettanto straordinaria espansione delle teorie
che, proprio nella fotografia, sembrano avere trovato un’occasione
particolarmente stimolante di applicazione e verifica per le diverse
metodologie che hanno alimentato la riflessione sull’immagine.
Del resto, le due prospettive che si intendono indagare, quella delle
poetiche e quella delle teorie, hanno sempre vissuto di scambi e
interferenze, a volte esplicite e dichiarate, altre nascoste o
comunque meno evidenti, contribuendo però insieme alla delineazione
di un’identità che fa della fotografia un mezzo assolutamente
contemporaneo e di grande vivacità culturale. Una vivacità
ulteriormente confermata e rilanciata dagli scenari tecnologici più
recenti, che hanno aperto nuove prospettive nelle pratiche d’uso e
nella fruizione dell’oggetto fotografico.
Si attendono proposte di contributi sui seguenti spunti di riflessione,
da considerare come tracce e non in senso esclusivo:
L’Ottocento e il confronto con la pittura
Dal Pittorialismo storico ai formalismi novecenteschi, fino alle più recenti pratiche di trattamento e trasformazione dell’immagine
Nuove prospettive di identità: le Avanguardie Storiche e gli annunci di Body Art, performance e concettualismo
Presenza e contributo della fotografia nello sviluppo delle Neo-Avanguardie: gli anni Sessanta-Settanta
Le fortune e l’evoluzione dello stile documentario nel corso del Novecento
La fotografia ibridata: dialoghi con l’architettura, il cinema, la letteratura, la moda, il teatro
Il display fotografico: gallerie, musei, editoria
Le nuove poetiche della partecipazione: dal diario al social
Le teorie del fotografico nella loro evoluzione storica e metodologica
Post e Iper-Fotografia nell’epoca della globalizzazione
Le pratiche di condivisione e di riuso
Le nuove frontiere della medialità e l’iperconsumo delle
immagini nella riflessione sociologica ed estetica

Dipartimento delle Arti dell’Università di Bologna (sede di S. Cristina).

International Research Centre).
The conference aims to carry out a wide-ranging exploration of
photographic research in the arts’ overall development. This
intention, prompted by the changes and innovations that have
characterized artistic and photographic culture between the end of the
century and the new millennium, stems from the reconsideration of the
medium’s historical paradigms. On the one hand, the technological
evolution and social changes, on the other hand, the development of
the visual arts and photography itself, have subjected the
medium’s identity to a continuous game of references and escapes,
of attractions and clashes.
Historically marked by the comparison with painting, the relationship
between photography and visual arts has been enriched during the
twentieth century by the relationships and complicity with those
researches that, breaking with the monopoly of painting, have opened
up the frontiers of the concept, of the body and the environment,
starting from the heroic season of the Historical Avant-garde up to
our days. To this fundamental relationship, one should add the
contaminations of photography with cinema, fashion, and the cultural
and creative industry and the intertwining with exhibition and museum
issues and its particular presence in publishing, up to the transition
to the digital and the universe of social media. All these phenomena
have contributed to an extraordinary expansion of theories that, in
photography, seem to have found an incredibly stimulating occasion of
application and verification for the different methodologies that have
fed the reflection on the image.
After all, the two perspectives we intend to investigate, that of
poetics and that of theories, have always lived through exchanges and
interferences, sometimes explicit and declared, other times hidden or
less evident, both contributing to reinforcing the identity of
photography as a contemporary medium of extraordinary cultural
vitality. A liveliness further confirmed and relaunched by the most
recent technological scenarios, which have opened new perspectives in
the practices of use and fruition of the photographic object.
Contributions are expected but not limited to the following topics:
– The Nineteenth Century and the Comparison with Painting
– From historical Pictorialism to twentieth-century formalisms, up to
the most recent practices of treatment and transformation of the image
– New perspectives of identity: the Historical Avant-gardes and the
anticipations of Body Art, performance and conceptualism
– Presence and contribution of photography in the development of the
Neo-Avantgardes: the Sixties-Seventies
– The fortunes and evolution of the “documentary style”
throughout the twentieth century.
– Photography and hybridizations: dialogues with architecture, cinema,
literature, fashion, theater
– The photographic display: galleries, museums, publishing
– The new poetics of participation: from the diary to the social
– Theories of photography in their historical and methodological
evolution
– Post-Photography and Hyperphotography in the era of globalization
– Practices of sharing and reuse
– The new frontiers of mediality and the hyper-consumption of images in
sociological and aesthetic reflection
The Conference will take place in Bologna on September 24 – 25 2021, at
the Alma Mater Studiorum/University of Bologna, Department of Arts (S.
Cristina venue).

Authors will be notified by May 30, 2021.

Registration Fee:
After being notified of the acceptance of the abstract, Conference
participants are required to pay by June 30, 2021 a conference fee of
– EUR 80,00 for Academic Scholars/Researchers
– EUR 50,00 for PhD/Students
The registration fee includes light lunch of the two days of the
Conference and participation in the peer review process for the
publication of the proceedings.
Pay Attention: due to the restrictions imposed by the current health
emergency, the admittance to this Conference is allowed only after a
formal registration.
