La dialettica del progetto “Parktraits” / The Discourse of the “Parktraits” Project
Il progetto “Parktraits”, crescendo, ha ricevuto molte critiche sia positive sia negative.
Di queste ultime – comunque sempre tanto utili, quanto rare, almeno sinora – ne riporto, in particolare, una recentissima, con un commento conclusivo di Massimo Crucitti, che pure ringrazio.

“Ho ripensato ai tuoi ritratti e ho scoperto (ma forse lo sapevo già) che non ho niente da dire. A me sembrano l’ennesima manifestazione delle infinite possibilità che l’elaborazione digitale offre; dei giochi fatti con intelligenza o – meglio – dei giochini, simpatici e (spero) terapeuticamente efficaci ma non andrei oltre, così come faccio fatica a immaginarmeli in una mostra, a immaginarli cioè come oggetti materialmente presenti, ma anche queste sono opinioni.”

“Grazie, innanzitutto, per l’attenzione e il tempo che mi hai dedicato.
Lo apprezzo anche se non condivido quanto dici, altrimenti, non mi sarei forse imbarcato in questa impresa del progetto “Parktraits”.
Mi scrivi, andando subito “al” punto, che non ti spingeresti oltre il definirli dei “giochini”.
Sarebbero, quindi, tecnicamente, una sorta di… passatempo.
Come potrebbero esserlo tanti altri comuni atti umani. Come, ad esempio: infilare delle perline, colorare dei disegni, etc.
Io, invece, non li ho evidentemente mai considerato tali tant’è, che… “spingendomi oltre”, ho immaginato i Parktraits soprattutto, ma non solo, come delle vere e proprie estensioni, delle proiezioni di qualcos’altro. Delle “materializzazioni” di un gesto volontario – talora persino “politico” – dei protagonisti raffigurati. I Parktraits, aggiungo, di norma “incarnano” sentimenti autentici e connessioni profonde. In ognuno di essi vedo delle storie personali, con le loro emozioni, i loro sentimenti e, non ultimo, la volontà manifesta di volerli comunicare.
Delle protesi intellettuali, dunque, qualunque siano state, per lo meno consapevolmente, le scelte – “nobili” o meno – poste a monte di questo gesto. Come potrebbe essere, per fare qualche esempio tra i tanti altrettanto possibili: un (pratico) modo, come un altro, per “liberarsi” da una richiesta considerata forse bizzarra, piuttosto che, come spero sia nella stragrande maggioranza dei casi, la manifestazione di un’autentica vicinanza, di un affetto sincero, etc.
E l’ulteriore passo – non solo formale – rappresentato dall’eventuale messa in mostra di questi “ri-tratti”, contribuirebbe ulteriormente a “dare una forma” a quanto ho appena accennato.
Materialmente, ci troveremmo quindi di fronte non a (s)oggetti qualunque, non a delle semplici “perline colorate” poste in ostensione in una qualsiasi vetrina, ma a qualcos’altro.
Ed è questo, credo… “il” punto. Quel che davvero significano questi ri-tratti è quello che, in definitiva, fa la differenza.
Un’ovvietà, mi dirai, ma tant’è!
É quel che di fatto veicolano – sempre e comunque diverso e mutevole, persino rispetto agli intenti posti a monte – che gli dà valore. É quel senso che è anche “dentro” delle semplici perline colorate – piuttosto che, non ultimi, i “miei”… Parktraits – che condensa il valore aggiunto. Un valore aggiunto non intrinseco, che è là perché qualcuno glielo ha “incollato”, traferito all’interno, dall’esterno.
Come, quando, aggiornato o meno che sia, non è certo secondario, perché anche questi aspetti concorrono a circoscrivere ulteriormente… “quel” punto.
Pertanto – e questa non è certo una mia opinione – quello che andrebbe valutato prioritariamente, è proprio il gradiente qualitativo di quella dimensione esterna incollata all’interno delle immagini. Quell’insieme esterno di senso, di idee, di valori ai quali fanno tecnicamente riferimento anche quei (spero anch’io) “simpatici” ri-tratti che compongono la raccolta dei Parktraits.
Detto questo, e tralasciando il fatto che io lo sto progressivamente sperimentando quel “fuori” che tu sembri non aver visto “incollato” nei Parktraits, di nuovo, “il” punto” è dunque la qualità di quel senso che chi li osservi vi veda o, per lo meno, immagini vi siano veicolati.
Come avviene per qualsiasi immagine, del resto: materiale o immateriale che sia, (s)oggetto concreto o idea che sia.
Rispetto, quindi, le tue opinioni, ma, evidentemente, abbiamo osservato e valutato da “angolazioni” diverse di quali idee e valori erano portavoci – o “ventriloqui”, se preferisci – le persone là “dentro” i Parktraits, di volta in volta, ri-tratte.
Questa diversità di opinioni credo ci renda in ogni caso più “ricchi”, non so se e quanto… [forse anche] migliori.
Comunque sempre diversi, come lo sono spesso anche le opinioni, perché, per quanto ovvio, ognuno ha il suo percorso, il suo vissuto.
Aggiungo, infine, che i Parktraits non sono nati come “strumenti” terapeutici, almeno non li avevo immaginati affatto come tali, sebbene non possa negare che in qualche caso lo siano comunque diventati e, ovviamente, non può che farmi piacere.
E se a questo aggiungiamo che, oltre che a te, risultano… [davvero] simpatici anche a molte altre persone: ancor meglio, no!
Quest’ultima qualità – e concludo ricordando quanto condividevo recentemente, al riguardo, con Giangi Milesi – potrebbe persino portare qualcuno a valutare di esportare questo percorso narrativo anche altrove.
Ad esempio, per raccontare in modo apparentemente leggero anche altre patologie altrettanto… “leggere”.”

“Ad una prima superficiale valutazione, si potrebbe non scorgere in Parktraits alcunché di straordinario, non riconoscendo l’unicità dell’opera d’arte, ritenendo questo lavoro il risultato di giochini tecnologici oramai alla portata di tutti, che chiunque sarebbe in grado di realizzare.
Considerazioni simili poteva riceverle anche un artista come Andy Warhol, oggi esposto nelle più importanti gallerie d’arte, il quale ci ha proposto il principio della serialità come opera e in questo paradossalmente è stato unico.
Analogamente ho visto in Parktraits qualcosa di nuovo nella interazione con i soggetti, la comunità ha risposto, è innegabile, simili fenomeni sociali sono poco pilotabili e prevedibili, questo è il grande valore del progetto.
Tutti stanno giocando con te, ciò mi ricorda una citazione che da tempo circola nel mondo della pedagogia: “Il bambino fa tutto col gioco ma non fa mai niente per gioco”.
Straordinaria è quindi questa comunità di persone che, pur nella sofferenza di una patologia, pubblicamente si prendono gioco di sé, attraverso la ri-trattazione della propria immagine.
Con ciò non voglio paragonare questo progetto ad altri in voga che, volendo curare con il sorriso, rischiano di risolversi in una risata isterica; perché la tua (concordo con te) è in primo luogo una scomoda azione politica, non un palliativo ma “un’ape che punge”.
Parktraits si sta configurando come un movimento e i movimenti trascendono anche i loro fondatori, per animarsi di vita propria.”

“I revisited your portraits and realized (though I may have known already) that I have nothing to say about them. To me, they seem like yet another manifestation of the infinite possibilities that digital manipulation offers—intelligently crafted games or, rather, playful creations that are cute and (hopefully) therapeutically effective. However, I wouldn’t go further than that. I struggle to envision them in an exhibit, to imagine them as physically present objects. But even these are just opinions.”

“First and foremost, thank you for your attention and the time you’ve taken to consider this. I appreciate it, even if I don’t entirely agree with what you’re saying; otherwise, I might not have embarked on the “Parktraits” project in the first place. You quickly mentioned that you wouldn’t push beyond labeling them as “games.” So, technically, you view them as a sort of hobby—something that many other common human activities could also be considered. Like threading beads or coloring drawings, for instance. However, I have never seen them that way. In fact, I’ve envisioned the “Parktraits,” especially but not exclusively, as genuine extensions or projections of something else. They are the “materializations” of deliberate gestures—sometimes even “political” ones—of the depicted protagonists. It’s worth noting that, typically, “Parktraits” embody authentic feelings and profound connections. In each of them, I see personal stories with their emotions, sentiments, and, importantly, the expressed intention of communicating them. In a way, they function as intellectual prosthetics, irrespective of whether the choices that underlie them—whether noble or not—were made consciously. They might serve as a practical way to liberate oneself from a perhaps bizarre request or, as I hope in the vast majority of cases, as a genuine expression of closeness or sincere affection. And the additional step—more than just a formal one—represented by the potential exhibition of these “re-traced” images would further shape and give form to what I’ve just touched upon. Materially, we would face not just ordinary objects or simple “colored beads” displayed in any showcase, but something else entirely. And this, I believe, is the crux of the matter. The true significance of these “re-traced” images is what ultimately makes the difference. You might say it’s an obvious point, but that’s how it is! It’s what they convey—always and consistently diverse and evolving, even relative to the intended purpose—that grants them value. It’s the meaning that resides “within” the simple colored beads or, in my case, the “Parktraits.” It encapsulates the added value, a non-intrinsic value that’s there because someone “glued” it on, transferred it from the outside. Whether updated or not, this aspect is certainly not secondary, as it further refines that “point.” Therefore, and this isn’t just my opinion, what should be prioritized is the qualitative gradient of that external dimension, glued inside the images. That external set of meaning, ideas, and values to which those (hopefully for me too) “likeable” re-traced images in the “Parktraits” collection technically refer. Having said that, and leaving aside the fact that I am gradually experiencing this “outside” that you appear to have overlooked in the “Parktraits,” once again, the “point” is the quality of that sense that observers perceive, or at least imagine to be conveyed. Just like with any image, material or immaterial, concrete object or mere idea. I respect your opinions; however, we’ve evidently observed and evaluated from different angles what ideas and values the people “inside” the “Parktraits,” each time re-traced, carried with them. I believe that this diversity of opinions makes us, in any case, richer—perhaps even better. Always different, just like opinions often are, because, as obvious as it sounds, everyone has their own journey, their own experiences. Lastly, I would like to add that the “Parktraits” weren’t conceived as therapeutic tools. At least, I hadn’t initially imagined them as such, although I can’t deny that in some cases, they have indeed become therapeutic, which of course, makes me glad. And if we add to this the fact that, beyond your perspective, they are genuinely likable to many others: even better, right? This quality, which I’ll conclude by remembering my recent exchange with Giangi Milesi, might even lead someone to consider exporting this narrative journey elsewhere. For instance, to convey other, equally “light” conditions in an apparently lighthearted way.”

“At a superficial glance, one might not recognize anything extraordinary in “Parktraits,” failing to acknowledge the uniqueness of this artwork, regarding this work as the result of technological games that are now within everyone’s reach—something anyone could create. Similar considerations could have been made for artists like Andy Warhol, who today graces the most significant art galleries. He introduced the principle of seriality as art, and paradoxically, he was unique in this aspect. In a similar vein, I see something new in “Parktraits” through the interaction with subjects. The community has responded; it’s undeniable. Such social phenomena are unpredictable and not easily controlled, which is the great value of the project. Everyone is engaging with you. This reminds me of a quote from the realm of pedagogy: ‘A child does everything through play, but never does anything just for play.’ Therefore, the extraordinary aspect lies in this community of individuals who, despite the suffering of a condition, playfully engage with themselves through the re-tracing of their images. I’m not comparing this project to others aiming to heal with a smile that risk devolving into hysterical laughter. Because yours (and I agree with you) is primarily an uncomfortable political action—not a mere palliative but rather a ‘stinging bee.’ “Parktraits” is taking shape as a movement, and movements often transcend even their founders, animating with a life of their own.”
